Version history
What changed, and when
The data version changes when records or their interpretation change. The schema version changes only when the underlying record structure changes. This distinction lets a citation identify the data it used without pretending that every correction is a new database design.

Data version 2.3.6
Re-sourced the relationship from A Singular Quest to Princess with a Cursed Sword. Its earlier record was an untraced note of a 2025 interview, which could not be checked or cited. It now cites a public 2025 interview in which Anna Anthropy says the game "actually began with another game: Gregor Vuga's A Singular Quest." It is recorded as creative inspiration through play, under narrative and theme, not as rules derivation.
Release totals: 48 works, 35 relationship assertions, 34 sources and 14 timeline-context records. Network shows 44 connected works; four catalogue records remain in connection research.

Data version 2.3.4
Added Mythic Variations 2 and the documented 2020 edition of The Portal at Hill House. Each has a work-specific source and one documented directional relationship. Twelve existing assertion references gained locators and short excerpts; the Burning Wheel to Thousand Year Old Vampire claim was narrowed to the Beliefs mechanism supported by Hutchings's interview. The Mythic RPG to GME claim no longer implies that Mythic RPG first appeared in 2006.
Both new works remain unassessed in Compare. They appear in Map, Timeline and Records, while their missing scores do not create chart positions. The older provisional scores have not changed.

Classroom teaching interface update
This interface update gives a lecturer a calmer, more legible presentation state while preserving the full research interface for preparation and individual exploration.
- Added a reversible Classroom view that keeps search and the four main views visible while removing secondary controls from the projected screen.
- Increased key labels and relationship lines in Classroom view, and moved the learning-route prompt away from the centre of the graph.
- Added a direct Evidence list action to the Map toolbar so the readable, filter-aware relationship list no longer depends on discovering a disclosure below the graph.
- Made Classroom view shareable through the
present=1URL state. - Made the compact classroom state the default at phone width, with a visible route back to the complete controls.
- Reduced header wrapping on common laptop and classroom display widths.
- Resolved each relationship's structured source records, locators, quotations and notes across the connection card, work details and record tables.
- Made learning-route steps shareable, kept route instructions visible while examining sources, and focused the cited source record for keyboard users.
- Kept Learning routes, sharing and active filter context available in Classroom view.
- Added saved-draft recovery, copy and download actions, storage feedback, and reversible clearing to the local Student Compare workspace.
- Made automatic phone Classroom view respond when the viewport changes while preserving an explicit user choice.
- Made direct file opening hand off from the development page to the classroom-ready offline map.
- Raised the contrast of Timeline relationship strokes so the evidence paths remain legible against the map background.
- Reduced Compare's measured first-build work from about two seconds to about 30 milliseconds by caching repeated label measurements, without introducing visible node or label collisions.
- Added downloadable route worksheets and a persistent completion reflection that survives a reload.
- Preserved an explicitly shared Timeline or Compare view when restoring a learning route, and kept current Compare selections when resuming saved student drafts.
- Separated claim status from source precision so a page-level citation without a recorded locator is visible as such.
- Stacked source records and returned route guidance to document flow at narrow widths, with a keyboard shortcut back to the route controls.
- Added keyboard navigation for record-section tabs and clearer focus treatment for source rows.
- Added an automated Chromium classroom suite covering route restoration, offline opening, evidence downloads, Compare privacy and recovery, keyboard navigation and narrow layouts.
- Packaged the map, method, version history, Toolkit and data downloads as one verified offline classroom folder.
- Simplified selected comparisons on phones to the works being compared, kept their labels visible, and aligned arrow-key navigation with the visible chart.
- Added a plain-language start page to the offline folder with the canonical opening file, suggested classroom sequence and Student Compare privacy reminder.
Data unchanged: this interface update retains data version 2.3.3 and schema version 2.0.0.

Data version 2.3.3
This release finishes the remaining Release 1 items after the 2.3.2 integrity and terminology sweep.
- Switched the main view tabs to manual keyboard activation so arrowing across views no longer stalls on Compare's first build.
- Made Timeline context tooltips hoverable so citation URLs can be reached and copied, with Escape still dismissing them.
- Updated the map header phrase and added an explicit UK-context sentence to the method page.
- Added a crowdfunding-campaign date basis and applied it to Solo Borg, which remains in development.
- Mapped project source kinds to valid CSL item types in the sources export and added a release-blocking CSL structural check.
- Documented how editorial state becomes a release in the project README.
- Made Compare placement fields optional on the suggestion form, with provisional review-time defaults.
- Stopped Map from re-packing on resize or view return (that collapsed curated clusters); added an explicit Reset layout control for intentional re-packing.
Release totals: 46 works, 33 relationship assertions, 31 sources and 14 timeline-context records. Network shows 42 connected works; four catalogue records remain in connection research.
24 July 2026
Data version 2.3.2
This release fixes defects in the export pipeline and settles inconsistent terminology between the dataset, the interface and the suggestion form.
- Fixed source records so structured authors, publisher and dates now survive from the canonical dataset through the database seed and every export.
- Added a source_refs.csv export recording per-reference locators, quotations and notes.
- Added a release-blocking round-trip check comparing the canonical dataset against the database seed and the exports.
- Removed the unused confidence column from exports.
- Unified display prominence to one vocabulary across the interface, form and dataset: Large, Medium, Standard.
- Stopped asking contributors for display prominence or evidence status on the suggestion form; the curator now assigns both at review.
- Removed vestigial internal flags from the dataset.
Release totals: 46 works, 33 relationship assertions, 31 sources and 14 timeline-context records. Network shows 42 connected works; four catalogue records remain in connection research.

Teaching-first interface pilot
This bounded interface release improves the first student journey while keeping evidence records, interpretive annotations and teaching instructions visibly separate.
- Added three data-driven learning routes whose steps are labelled as evidence, interpretation or instruction.
- Added one pilot interpretive lens with seven proposed discussion cases, without changing evidence arrows or recorded lineages.
- Changed search selection into navigation, so choosing a result no longer leaves the whole map filtered to one title.
- Added a filter-aware Connections as text disclosure and progressive relationship details.
- Added a local Student Compare workspace for drafting alternative scores and rationales without publishing them.
- Separated the authored teaching profile from the canonical evidence dataset and included it in the offline release.
- Stopped approval of new evidence records from silently extending interpretive lineages.
Data unchanged: this interface and teaching-layer pilot retains data version 2.3.1 and schema version 2.0.0.

Interface update
This update makes each control's behaviour and relationship clearer without changing the dataset.
- Promoted Map, Timeline and Compare into a persistent Explore views switcher, with short descriptions and a distinct Records and sources route.
- Separated additive filters, one-choice layout modes and persistent display switches.
- Placed the Map-only Lineage regions switch beside its parent layout choice, with a visible dependency note and disabled state.
- Distinguished viewport commands and supporting disclosures from the guided route, which remains the sole primary action.
- Combined SVG, PNG and print output into one Export disclosure.
Data unchanged: this interface update retains data version 2.3.1 and schema version 2.0.0.
22 July 2026
Data version 2.3.1
This release ensures every named mechanic filter is represented by at least two connected works.
- Added Anamnesis, Samantha Leigh's tarot-based solo journaling RPG.
- Documented Leigh's acknowledgement of The Wretched as an inspiration using the creator's dated release announcement.
- Added a release check requiring every named mechanic filter to include at least two works in the connected Network.
Release totals: 46 works, 33 relationship assertions, 31 sources and 14 timeline-context records. Network shows 42 connected works; four catalogue records remain in connection research.
22 July 2026
Data version 2.3.0
This release makes Network a relationship-assertion graph while preserving the wider research catalogue in the other views.
- Network now includes only works participating in at least one documented relationship.
- Added a Connection research section to Browse for records that do not yet have an evidence-backed relationship.
- Added Tunnels & Trolls, Sugarcane Island and the Peregrine SRD as source-backed upstream or downstream records.
- Documented seven new relationships covering T&T Solo Adventures, Choose Your Own Adventure, Four Against Darkness, Last Tea Shop, Artefact, Village Witch and the Peregrine SRD.
- Retained Quill, Apothecaria, Colostle and Koriko in the catalogue as connection-research records because the available research does not support a work-specific relationship assertion.
- Added release checks for the connected-only Network policy and its visible explanation.
Release totals: 45 works, 32 relationship assertions, 30 sources and 14 timeline-context records. Network shows 41 connected works; four catalogue records remain in connection research.
22 July 2026
Data version 2.2.0
This release adds three strongly sourced works from the research backlog and makes their relationships easier to inspect outside the Network view.
- Added Five Hundred Year Old Vampire and The Magical Year of a Teenage Witch as documented adaptations of A Thousand Year Old Vampire.
- Added Unbound as the documented upstream influence named by Becky Annison for Wreck This Deck.
- Recorded four new source records, including the creators' own statements and an institutional publication record.
- Added a selected-work relationship trail to Timeline.
- Added shared-mechanics, placement-range and within-selection relationship summaries to Compare.
- Reorganised Browse data into Works, Relationships, Sources and Downloads sections, and exposed record kind, date basis and named lineage membership.
Release totals: 42 works, 25 relationship assertions, 24 sources and 14 timeline-context records.
22 July 2026
Data version 2.1.0
This release makes the map's evidential boundary public and citable. It does not add works or relationship assertions.
- Added the Method and scope page, including inclusion criteria, evidence statuses, visual limits, absences, corrections and rights boundaries.
- Linked the method from the map, Browse data, Toolkit and suggestion form.
- Added five teaching activities that ask students to test claims and sources.
- Changed `Reported / inference` to `Reported, source check pending`.
- Reframed node size as curatorial display prominence, not historical significance.
- Generated the map, method and Toolkit as one cross-linked offline package.
- Corrected the documented timeline-context total to eight sourced and six reported records.
- Rebuilt the Network placement as a deterministic, topology-aware layout with component packing, fan-in and fan-out spacing, shape-aware collision checks, title-aware routing and a taller responsive canvas.
- Changed work-hover panels to avoid the focused marker and title, and repeated the current work as a prominent heading inside the panel.
Release totals: 39 works, 22 relationship assertions, 20 sources and 14 timeline-context records.
22 July 2026
Data version 2.0.0
This release separates works, relationship assertions and reusable source records, while retaining compatibility fields for the earlier map.
- Introduced stable assertion identifiers, structured source references and versioned dataset metadata.
- Recorded evidence and review rationales for all 22 assertions.
- Enriched 20 source records and deduplicated the public source catalogue.
- Added record kinds, date bases and provisional rationales for all 39 Compare placements.
- Added source status to all 14 timeline-context records.
- Restored the two-dimensional Network map as the default, retaining Grouped as an option.
- Added Browse data and versioned CSV, CSL-JSON, GEXF and JSON-LD exports.
Schema version: 2.0.0.
Before 22 July 2026
Pre-versioned prototype
The earlier single-file map established the initial selection of works, hand-positioned network, timeline and Compare view. It remains preserved in dated backups, but it was not published as a versioned dataset release.
How to cite a version
Include the data version shown by the map or export. A citation of an individual relationship should also name its claim and source record. The full format and present rights boundary are set out in Method and scope.
